Do you hear the Barbarians at the Gate? the Romans said

Was reading about a school in the Maritimes that stopped the National Anthem so to not offend someone. I don't even want to get into who it may be - it matters not - and I do not believe people should be forced physically to stand or sign - but I must note - without national institutions - you have no nation. And if they aren't in the schools, no one will have them later.

Great - you say - I'm a global citizen of the world and have no allegiances to petty dictatorships like the opressive Canadian regime.... but remember my ancestors...

You can tell I've been reading about the Dark Ages and germanic goth tribes again. First we came in, fleeing from the very scary Atilla the Hun and just wanted to settle in the nicer areas and were a good buffer zone. Joined the Legion armies, got educated - Romanized in fact - but when we got strong enough, we focussed on local control - because who cares what the Emperor thinks when the farmers pay tax to the local noble anyways... and hey, we were the local nobles now! The original residents were oppressed by someone always - might as well be us... so the tax money river to Rome dries up a little.... eventually when someone moves againt the Emperor... we don't exactly rush to his defence - 'local governance' and all. And when he really ticked us off or we went to visit the palaces and saw all the nice stuff, we came a'callin' and brought all our berserker friends with us and SACKED THE PLACE!!!! And then, the Dark Ages. Nice empire, you used to have, oh well, we're doing okay locally... except for the constant warfare and invasions and disease and ....

Too bad the Romans didn't know where to draw the line sooner. I think we can accomodate a lot of differences in Canada - but you have to have some basic level of 'gotta get along-ness' or we'll fall apart. The Americans - as wacky as they do things - their saving grace is that illogical yet entrenched 'You are an American first' feeling which creates a unity we cannot match. If you stand for nothing - you fall for anything.

Yes, the Americans are oppressive - which government wasn't? Look at how many empires have risen and fallen - everyone has been stomped on multiple times.

I checked another blog with a litany of sins of Canada and how people have the right to refuse participating in this evil nation. I do completely encourage people to reject all aspects of an evil 'nation' or whatever that they disagree with - and I do not believe people should be forced to particpate in rituals they disagree with... and I do not believe anyone should then be forced to use Canadian money, banks, social services, health care, cheques, voting privileges, postal service, roads, infrastructure, etc. Yes, I completely support anyone's right to secede from Canada - an uncle of mine was quite the hermit who wanted very little from the outside world - as long as they as honest about it. No one should be forced to go to school at any age... just don't expect me to care in 10 years if they change their mind and need support or education at that time. Canada is bad - and people should avoid bad things at all times.

BTW: the internet in Canada was set up by the gov't. So sad I won't be able to read the other guy's blog anymore...
