Privilege

The hallmark of privilege is
       ignorance about having it

The king in danger of beheading
       after a battle sees himself
as oppressed as the foot-soldier
       who dies in the first volley

The white guy who endures
        thirty fruitless job interviews
doesn't think it is twenty more
        than his black neighbor had

The jilted prom queen in her pain
       wishes she stayed single
like the wallflowers
       who despise eternally going stag

the radical who shakes the foundations
      cannot hear the fascist
who dares not be heard to defend them
